Blessing Bags Collection: February 28

During the month of January, our children learned about Martin Luther King, Jr., his legacy, and how even small hands can make a difference. To give our children the opportunity to put what they learned into action, the VFES PTO is partnering with Angels in Motion to organize the following event:

 

Blessing Bags Collection

Friday, February 28

We would like to invite you to participate in our Blessing Bags event by donating snacks that our children will have the opportunity to package into “blessing bags” on February 28. Each “blessing bag” needs to contain juice, Poptarts, and five other snacks. Please review our sign-up sheet to see how you can help. If you would like to participate, please purchase amounts of the item(s) you choose to meet or exceed the minimum count indicated on the signup sheet. This will enable us to meet our goal of making at least 250 blessing bags! You can drop off your donations in the “blessing bags” box located in the Main Lobby or send them to school with your child and teachers will collect them.

Angels in Motion aims to change the way those suffering with the disease of addiction are treated, one life at a time, by going into the streets, reaching out to the homeless and those suffering from substance abuse, and handing out “blessing bags.” Each blessing bag contains an AIM resource pamphlet with information about seeking medical help, shelter, detox/treatment, etc., as well as an inspirational note and snacks.
The VFES PTO will be using our Blessing Bags event to qualify for an award of park hopper tickets to Walt Disney World, through the Points of Light organization. If you are interested in learning more about our event on the Points of Light website, please click here. To qualify for tickets, Points of Light requires that the PTO submit an email address for each family that participates to verify that our event is legitimate; however, Points of Light will not sell or otherwise use your information to contact you. To this end, we will use the email address that you provide when you sign up to donate. We need at least 75 families to participate to qualify for 20 park hopper tickets – enough tickets for a family to spend several days at the parks! The VFES PTO hopes to offer awarded park hopper Disney tickets as a top prize at this year’s Spring Fair Raffle.
